weird language characters in internet explorer

Hi! I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I hope someone can help me. Since a week or so, in my e-mails and the web pages that I browse through internet explorer, the french characters appear as chinese - or some such language (like the e with the accent appears as a chinese character).

I think I have installed some sort of language support. It was not like this before. How do I get rid of it? I need french readability. If this is not the right place for this question, please direct me to it. See, I am not sure if it was caused by windows update. Thanks a lot

It is possible you may have parasites, spyware, adware or
malware on your system causing the problem. Download,
install, update the programs to be sure they have the latest
definitions, then run the programs below. They are free and
