Webpage (Site) Displays Blank Page

J

JCO

Runing Windows 2000 with IE 6 and all updated patches.

This is a weird situation. I can't get a website to display. It is the
eBay "Sign In" Page. When I click it, I get a Blank Page displayed. I
thought it was a problem with the Secure Socket Link (SSL) however, I can
log on to other "Secure" Sites. In fact, this EBay Sign In page is the only
page, to my knowledge, that I cannot display.

I have ZoneAlarm installed, but it is temporarily turned off until I can
resolve this issue. I don't have any applications that would prevent me
from storing the cookies (to my knowledge). I have (and have run) Ad-Aware
6 and SpyBots 1.3, to ensure that I don't have some Spyware on my system. I
have Norton Systemworks 2004 loaded and no virus.

It is as if, one page only, is blocked from view but I can't figure out what
could do this. All IE settings such as cookies, restricted sites... so
forth, found under
Tools>Internet Options>General are set at the default values.

What could cause this?
Any ideas?

Hi JCO :)

Try the following and see if it helps

Go to Start|Run and enter "regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll" (without the
quotes). After you get a Success message, re-boot. If that doesn't work,
then check out the following article and do the additional steps outlined
there:

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You
Click a Link

or................

Go to "Start" -> "Run" -> and register the following dll's by using
regsvr32 command. Try the first 2, then see if it resolves the problem. If
not then register the rest of the .dll's:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll?
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll

regsvr32 scrrun.dll?
regsvr32 msxml.dll?
regsvr32 mshtml.dll?
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll?
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll?

or................

Blank Pages - Windows
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers2.htm#blank_windows

or.....................

You get a blank page:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

5. If you are using WinXP try this:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_Default_Browser.reg

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (msconfig for WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk' ("Expand File" for WinXP).
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 (i386 for WinXP) folder of your installation CD-ROM
(typically D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs (Windows\i386 for
WinXP) folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System (C:\Windows\System32
for WinXP), and click OK. System File Checker (or msconfig) looks for the
file, saves it as you requested, and then tells you that 'the file has been
successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

or............................

Resetting security level to default "medium" resolved issue

Go to Start|Run and enter "regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll" (without the
quotes). After you get a Success message, re-boot. If that doesn't work,
then check out the following article and do the additional steps outlined
there:

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You

If the above does not work, try uninstalling your Norton Systemworks. Some
types of these problems have been resolved by uninstalling the Norton AV or
other types of Norton programs which were blocking them.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Thanks for you quick response. I tried the first thing you mentioned and it
changed nothing. I'm reviewing the other material. It's just so strange
that it is the one (single) site that won't display. And coincedentally a
site that I go to a lot. I have multiple computers. The settings on all
are the same. I can get on the site with my other computers but not this
computer.

Reviewed most links and nothing seems to apply. You have to remember the
wierd part of this issue. It only seems to prevent 1-page ONLY from
loading. Makes you think that it is not really an IE problem but some other
conflict.

Hi JCO :)

You might be right in that it may be a problem with the site itself and not
your IE. On the other hand, as it is the only one you are having trouble
with, check your HOSTS file and see if that might be blocking it. It's the
only other thing that I know to suggest at this point.

How to Edit HOST File:
http://www.lithiumdata.com/QandA/hosts.htm

How to check HOSTS file

Windows/host (it will not have an extension, and if there is more than one,
choose the one that says Application in a column to the right) . Right click
on it and select Open with.....when the window opens, scroll down the list
to Notepad. Once it opens in Notepad, scoll down the list to see if that
site is in the list. If so, DO NOT delete it, just go to the very front of
the line to the left and enter # in front of the line so that it looks
similar to the one below, as the entries with # in front will be ignored.

# Entries with other comments are searchable via Google.

Then click the save button and close. Then try the site again.

For more information on the HOSTS file check here
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_10.htm#hosts

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

.I have windows 98 and IE6 and the only web page that I

It's not the ebay site because I can get to the loging with my other
comptuers.
The other computers run the same software (zone alarm and Norton). Even
though I shut ZA down on this computer, I wonder if it still has something
that blocks this site.

Its so specific. Its this site only and on this computer only. It must be
a conflict somewhere but why this site.... I'm loosing my hair on this...
and I can't afford that.

I tried acrobat.com and it redirected to
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/main.html

This site comes up fine for me. I would not wish this problem on anybody
but I have to say... I'm glad to hear that the same type of problem occured
with somebody else.

If I discover something I will let you know. I'm reading up on things. I
too am a programer. I too am very disturbed about OUR situation that seems
so specific.

I discovered something today. I believe the webpage problem happened after
I installed Visual Studio 6. I was working on another computer today.
After this installation, EBay is not a blank page again.

Do you have Visual Studio? Its a programming suite that contains many
different programming tools. I believe this may have caused my problem.
Let me know.
