At our office we have a NT 4SP5a server with windows XP Pro clients aswel as
windows 98SE clients.
After installing the three new (XP Pro) computer i encouter the following
problem:
When i want to print a webpage on either of the 3 Win XPP machines they
reboot.
I use HP Laserjet 2200DN printers on a HP Jetdirect 170X printserver.
On the Windows 98SE machines these error does not occur

Anyone an idea

The most likely problem is that the NT4 drivers are crashing the XP system.
This has been a persistent issue because many NT4 drivers were not written
to run on XP systems. Your admin should have tested these drivers with WinXP
before allowing you to use the two in tandem.

The two ways out of the problem are
1. Ask your system admin to setup a server with Windows 2000 or WinXP and
install the driver for hp 2200 shipped with that OS. You should connect to
that server to download the driver and print. It is usually fairly difficult
to install XP drivers on NT4 systems so admin will have to setup a win2k or
xp server. An inbox driver that comes with win2k/xp can (in most cases) work
on both win2k/xp.
2. If you are an admin on your XP machine, you install the HPLJ2200 printer
on your own machine. You won't need any external CD because the 2200 driver
is already present in Windows. When you have to choose the port create a new
local port. The name of the port should be \\nt4machinename\sharename (of
course change the names appropriately). If the printer has an IP address,
create a new TCP/IP port with the IP address.
