WD v NAV 2007

I have recently installed NAV 2007 (not the internet security suite) and am
wondering, whether or not, WD RTP should be enabled/disabled? My gut instinct
is that I would like it to be enabled, but, wonder if there are conflicts of
interest - given NAV now has its own AS element. Can the guys at MS verify
one way or another please? Joe F, Bill S? I would very much appreciate your
comments and advice as I would like to configure the apps accordingly. Right
now I have WD RTP disabled ( in favour of NAV) but this gives me a very
uneasy feeling. In short. Are we likely to run into probs with two RTP AS
progs running without detriment or not? Some articles I`ve read suggest ..
YES . others NO. Please enlighten me.

This is of only marginal relevance to your question, Stu, but the AVG
Security suite (which I have) combines both AV and AS, and I've been running
this together with Defender, both with RTP, since last October. I haven't
encountered any problems at all. So this demonstrates that there's no
inevitable conflict when running two AS systems together with RTP, as a
general principle.

In the bad old days when I had Norton AV (with no AS) running alongside
Defender, I recall the Norton error logs being full of unhelpful interactions
between Norton and Defender, though I don't remember the details. So there
does seem to be more potential for conflict there - but my experience is now
well out of date.

Hi Alan.

Many thanks for your response. Those are the days I`m thinking of - given
I`ve been a Norton user for many years now. More than I care to remember;
When Peter Norton ran the show, I was an ardent admirer. Then along came
Symantec !! "Now my philosophy is ...... better the devil you know and so
that is why I have stuck with it. I run ZA as my personal firewall but have
the AS element disabled . favouring just the one - NAV. I have done this
because NAV seems to be so `touchy` on my system .........

I run avg Pro and RTP on WD enabled with no problems. You know how I feel
about Nav and Symantic and anything can go wrong with it.

I have NAV 2007 and WD. I use WD's real time protection, without any
problems. The only thing is if you scan with WD, NAV shows in its log that
it prevented WD from accessing Nav's files (unless you exclude the files in
WD). In Nav I have Internet worm protection off but that is because I use
Zone Alarm firewall, not because of WD's real time protection.

OK.. many thanks for the response guys. In fact I was wondering whether or
not to turn off NAV worm protection on account of ZA - will definately give
that a try.

Thanks once again.
