wd asks for specific antivirus

Good evening.
Im using win vista and some days ago i got a notification that wd needs an
antivirus program cause the one wd is using has expired.i already have a free
version of avast but wd suggests other applications and not the free ones
such as mine.also wd can not detect that i have this antivirus application
installed.is there a problem conserning conflicts or any other problems at
all?and why does wd when disabled cut off my speed??

I've not seen a dialog from Windows Defender recommending specific products.

It sounds to me as though you have multiple antivirus products
installed--the expired one, that you are seeing warnings about, and Avast?

If this is the case, you should uninstall the expired product, and reinstall
Avast--just do a new download and install over what is already in place.

I'm not sure I've run Avast on Vista--but I think that it should install and
hook into the security center and be recognized as proper protection.
