WD 160 GB on WinXP Pro

I am using an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe REV 2.xx MB with an Athlon 2800+ CPU. The BIOS is
Phoenix Rev 1006, 10/14/2003. I only get 137 GB on the drive. The WD software keeps
crashing.

Any idea how to get the rest of the hd? I did check the manual but could not find any
way to recognize drives above 137 GB. I am using Win XP Pro SP1.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Warm Regards,
Lou

There is a 1011 BIOS available but I suspect that is not the problem as
137GB BIOS fixes appeared before 10/14/2003.

What WD SW? No WD software of anykind should be involved except possibly a
diagnostic. That WD software is likely the problem. Remove all traces of
it by writing zeroes to the entire drive using a WD diagnostic and start
clean on the HD and see if the mobo's BIOS recognizes the full size of the
drive during post and in mobo BIOS setup. Then FDISK or let the XP CD boot
and setup do that.

More details on what you are doing with the WD software.

Now you are catching on. I'll bet he's got some awful drive overlay
software in there which has been the bane of stable processing since well
before the turn of the millenium.
