Drive Image Pro 4.0 - does it support HDs bigger than 137 GB?

I know Drive Image Pro 4.0 is old, but it's all I have because I
didn't want to pay to upgrade from version 4.0 since it has worked
fine for what I needed. However, I finally bought a hard drive over
the 137 GB limit (160 GB HD) for which I had to load Maxtor's software
to enable Windows 2000 to support the full 160 GB. My motherboard must
support 160 GB as I can use the full capacity of the HD.

I can't find my old Drive Image Pro 4.0 documentation, and I can't
find a word about version 4.0's specifications on Powerquest's web
page. Could anyone here please tell me if it's safe to use version 4.0
(which boots from floppy) to image my boot partition on a 160 GB HD
onto a different partition of the same hard drive?

Drive Image Pro 4.0 shows the correct sizes for the hard drive
partitions in the menu, but I don't know if I can assume that means it
will write the image correctly without wrecking my HD if it accesses
sectors beyond the 137 GB limit.

Hi Matthew,
can't say that it will for Drive Image 2002 (version 6) has been *tested*
with HDD sizes up ro 120 Gb...Why take the risk by saving just a few bucks?
There is an upgrade policy (Symantec) to upgrade your version 4.0 to version
7.0 (which also includes Drive Image 2002)...

Did 48 bit LBA exist for consumer use at the time DI 4.0 was written? No.

Latest version is 7.1

Doesn't matter, for 137 Gb you don't need all 48 bits. The current
'partition table system' is limited to 32 bits itself for partition start
LBA locations and LBA size. This was true at the time of DM4 and this is
still true. In general any tool 'making extended int13h calls' including DM4
will not have a problem addressing drives > 128 Gb as long as the BIOS can
handle it.

It is however possible that DM4 has limitations handling a larger partition,
though this will be a memory related issue. If you do not intend to use
'huge' partitions DM4 should do fine.
