water droplet sound - annoying - can't find source

K

kurlancheek

hello
this has been addressed before
the supposed answer was to modify the settings in a program called
"pest control"

it sounds like a drop of water but for a shorter duration, and it's
not loud, just annoying
almost like a click, but longer in duration, more like a quick "chirp"

my dell inspiron doesn't have pest control installed on it

i still get the noises

even with sound card off, wireless off, cell phone off,
computer sound volume to Zero

any ideas?

thanks

Hi Kurlan,

If your computer is not in your bathroom, try running IE6 (you did not
mention your Windows version) with Toolbars and Browser Helpers disabled.

Tools>Internet Options - Advanced tab, uncheck "Enable third-party Browser
Helper Objects" (something like that, depending upon your Windows and IE
versions)

Restart the browser.

If that stops the unwanted sound, then it is because you have a third-party
Toolbar/Popup blocker installed. You can leave your Browser Helpers disabled
or you can use the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel to
uninstall any suspicious Toolbars.

If you are using Windows XP with SP2 and IE6 you can use the Tools>Manage
Addons menu from IE to disable your Toolbars one by one to find the one that
is making the sound.

You can change the Navigation Sound (the sound IE makes when you navigate to
a page or click on a link) from the Control Panels' Sounds applet.

Regards.
