Watched folder settings & smart views

I opened one of the many icons at the bottom right of the screen on my new
computer with Windows Vista Home Premium loaded. This opened a window
listing all the folders on my system, with a title of "Watched Folder
Settings". It says I can start or stop Folder Watching here, and that the
service watches for changes to the selected folders and keeps Smart Views
up-to-date. There is no "help" for this, and if I search
support.microsoft.com for "watched folders", "folder watching", or "smart
views", I get no results.

Can someone tell me the purpose of this, or is it just a resource-hogging
feature that is not needed?

Thanks for any help!

This does not sound like any Microsoft Vista product? It probably was
installed by the computer maker. Check with them.

Thanks - once you pointed that out, I looked further in a Google search, and
found it is related to Roxio media manager.
