Warped/Choppy Audio Playback For Large Files

Hi Guys

I am wondering whether anyone else had a similar problem to me and knows how it can be fixed

I recently upgraded to Windows XP and now any large sound file does not play back well. The sound is distorted, like a casette tape that has been stretched in places. It doesn't happen with any small files such as the startup/shutdown sounds for windows, but on files say 1MB or more it does this, regardless of the format of audio (tried MP3, WMA, and WAV

Anyone know about this problem and could suggest a remedy? My computer has 128MB Ram and is a 233MMX, however I didn't have the problem when I was running Win98. It also doesn't matter what audio player software I use, it is the same effect. I have the latest audio drivers, and they appear to work correctly

You PC is a little on the 'just' side to be running XP.

You should really install more RAM and maybe upgrade your processor.

However, if you up-graded (and lets be honest, a clean install is way
better), you need to make sure you have XP specific drivers for your
soundcard. Go to the manufacturer's website and download them. Un-install
anything you may already have that relates to your sound card then re-boot.
XP will detect your card and then ask for the drivers. Install the new
ones.If that doesn't help, then you're stuffed - a PC upgrade is
unfortuntely needed.

OK, thanks alot for that

I have already downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the sound card (probably about 20 times! ) but it doesn't seem to assist the problem. The other thing that leads me away from driver problems is that the sound files play perfectly when they are less than about 1MB in size - its just stuffed for all other media

Anyway, thanks again for your assistance, I guess I will just fiddle around alittle more incase something benificial happens

XP takes a lot more ponies than you have, your system is best for 98 as you
have seen.
