Oops. NOW I see the "command line version" under features.

I also found LDZip, at http://ldzip.port5.com/.

Thanks everybody.

The classic free MS-DOS PKZIP 2.5 has long filename support when
run in a 32-bit Windows DOS session (at least in Win9x). I haven't tested
it under Win2000, but suspect that it would also work in that OS.

I've used PKZIP 2.5 with a DOS batch file under 95, 98, ME, 2000, and XP
without any problems. I got my copy years ago, but don't think you can
download it for free anymore. Do you know if/where it can be obtained for
free? If so, I'd like to know so I can steer other people to it.

The reason I like PKZIP 2.5 (and also WinZip with command-line add-on) is
because they have command-line options to zip only files with the archive bit
set. But neither of these are freeware, and I haven't found a freeware product
that can zip by archive bit. It doesn't appear Info-Zip, 7-Zip or any of the
other programs often mentioned in this ng can do that. Specifically, I'd like
a freeware, Windows command-line zip program that can zip only files with the
archive bit set and turn the archive bit off. Anyone know of something?

Mine is years old too. I just checked the Pkzip site, and indeed
they want $47 for it now. It had never occurred to me that a once-free
DOS program might have become payware. Usually it's the other way around.

How about InfoZip <http://www.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/>? A very
standard, reliable tool.

On the other hand, you can now get the zip/unzip utilities from the
info-zip group at <http://www.info-zip.org/>, which work as the ones
from PKware. So, no need to worry about it.

Also, PKZip was never really free, it always has been shareware.

But Info-Zip doesn't seem to support all of PKZIP 2.5's command-line
options. Donald and I aren't the OP, and perhaps Info-Zip is adequate
for the OP (if he's still here), but I'm particularly looking for a
freeware alternative that supports selecting by archive bit, as
PKZIP's "-add=increm" option does.
