Could someone offer suggestions, surely sharnig the C: drive doesn't have to
be this hard or this unsecure on a network, here's deal...
I have small network, a printer and 2 WinXP-pro PC's behind a Linksys
firewall router and DSL modem (like most everybody else). All I'd like to
do is on PC#1(FAMILY) share the "Documents and Settings" on its c: drive so
I can copy files to/from PC#2(GEORGE). I turned on sharing on PC#1.
Of course, when I attempt to get to this drive by using PC#2(GEORGE), I get
"access denied".
Someone said "turn off simple file sharing". But then I've got to set
"permissions", right? And it only gives me one choice under group/user
names and that is "Everybody". Then there are checkboxes and more settings.
Sounds risky and complicated.
So, isn't there a simple few steps, to enable sharing, and not compromise
security, without having to study Microsoft document 1234567890 on "how to
share". (On my old network of Win98 PC's, you just shared the drive, that
was it.)
Anyway, would greatly appreciate,
Thanks,
George
