Wallpaper problems with .jpg files in Display Properties tab. Cannot select .JPG wallpaper!

Well,

This problem soon began after I installed some Windows XP patches.
When I right click on the desktop to bring up display properties, I
click on the Desktop tab and select a .jpg wallpaper and XP will do 1
of 2 things:

Either quickly exit out of display properties back to the desktop
without changing the wallpaper, or it will give me an error like this:

Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

--------------
Clicking the 'more info' link gives me this message:

------------
Error Signature
AppName: rundll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.0ModName:
mshtml.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2800.1106 Offset: 001a0347

Wallpaper files in .bmp format preview and can be chosen just fine.
Again this is a new problem. XP worked fine before.

Help?

Rejoice!

I have found the solution to this very annoying problem! It seems that
some adware was installed onto my system through Active X controls.
Search for xplugin.dll on your hard drive or do a Google search to
learn more.

You need to unregister this using the following statement in run:

regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\System32\xplugin.dll

Reboot and voila! Back to normal! How rude of these people to assume
we want their system corrputing crap quietly installed behind our
backs. Shame on them.

Man.. you're a genius! i had the same problem. i couldn't change my
wallpaper. it was only shown an information about an error in
rundll32.exe.
it is weird because i didn't installed any service packs for xp - i
installed only a RPC patch.
i'd like to thank you for the solution

I am not showing this xplugin.dll file but I have just run into this
problem as well. I cannot load up any of my .jpg pictures for
wallpapers, it will list them when I navigate but it won't show them in
the window nor change them, I can only use .bmp right now and it's
driving me crazy.... I get no error messages at all, it just doesn't
want to cooperate.
