W32.Bugbear@mm, I can't get rid of

S

Sherry

I recently had a friend install Windows XP Home Edition
and Nortor Anti Virus 2005. After the Anti Virus ran it
showed that my computer has W32.Bugbear@mm. The anti virus
cannot Quaratine or even delete it. I am a rookie and do
not know how to to get this out of my machine. Could
someone, please, tell me in layman's terms how to go about
this. Thanks, Sherry

Obtain McAfee's virus and worm removal tool, Stinger: http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

1) Disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
2) Reboot the affected PC into Safe Mode
3) Using McAfee Stinger, perform a Full Scan of the platform and clean/delete any
infectors found
4) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of the platform
5) Re-enable System Restore and re-apply anyS ystem Restore preferences
(e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
7) Reboot the PC.
6) Create a new Restore point
7) Please report back the results
