W2k3 Shared Folder help

S

S.C

I have a clean setup of a Windows 2003 Server SP1, (DC, DNS, File Server,
DHCP setup), I also have a clean setup of a PC with Windows XP Pro, I can
login thru the DC but I cannot drop files into the "Shared Folder", I can
see the files but cannot access them.

If I login on the Server I have full access.

Any ideas where I messed up?

TIA
Steve

You didn't say whether or not you joined the XP pro computer to the domain,
and whether you are logging into it using a local account or a domain
account.

Does the folder have read/write or "Full Control" access for all allowed
accounts?

Check the Share permission, that you had write, default is read only!

What are the sharing rights? They are different from the Security rights.

Here is what I see ....

From the computer I am logged into:
I find the folder, right click>properties>security
Permissions for (username) Full Control
Permissions for (domain.user) all boxes checked but full control

On the Server:
Folder Properties (which is actually E: Drive) Sharing>Properties
Group or user name - (Everyone)
Permission (read)

Do I need to add each individual who I want to have access to the folder and
then set the permissions to read and write?

TIA
Steve

There are two different sets of settings on the "server" end of the share -
those are what we need to check, not what you can see from a client PC.
