W200 Services & Task Manager

Recently picked up a virus and after removal result is that I cannot Change
startup type of Automatic Update Service from disabled. Any change seems to
take initially but attempts to start the service causes it to revert to
Disabled. Also have completely lost Task Manager (C-A-D) brings up window
but Task Manager button is greyed out.
Suspect registry problem but any help appreciated

You can change the startup type for a service manually in the
respective registry key. The values are:
0=boot
1=system
2=automatic
3=manual
4=disabled
About your virus infection: It is a myth that virus removal tools can
"fix" an infected machine. They can repair some damage but often
some traces remain. To me an infected machine is a compromised
machine. If it was mine then I would rebuild it.

Thanks and was most helpful. Any info on Task Manager problem would be appreciated. Agree with comments re Virus removal, and machine will be rebuilt in very near future.
