VueScan Blowout

D

Dave

Hello again,

This scanning business just gets more interesting – and more
frustrating – all the time.

Now I'm trying to scan some Kodak Ektachrome slides with VueScan and
it's blowing out the reds like you wouldn't believe. All the other
colors seem normal, but anything red is so oversaturated it seems
fluorescent. I've tried playing with VueScan settings, including
selecting Image as the media and turning all the filters off, but that
has very little or no effect. NikonScan doesn't do it on the same
slides. Any suggestions? (Besides the obvious.)

Many thanks.

I have had not seen this (with a Nikon 4000ED). Have you calibrated the
scanner?

Yep, I calibrated the scanner a couple of times.

It's very strange. VueScan worked fine on some negative film I was
scanning, but blows out the reds on the slides. It can't be the
slides themselves because NikonScan handles them just fine.

Are you using a custom ICC profile? If so, was it produced by
VueScan or some other profiling software?

Have you tried the following?

1) Delete vuescan.ini
2) Run VueScan
3) Press Preview
4) Adjust cropping
5) Press Scan

This will diagnose whether the problem is due to a non-default
option setting or some basic flaw in VueScan or the scanner.
