I seem to be having a problem with Bob cerelli's
When trying to access the VPN I get a message that the remoe server is
unreachable or security parameters are not set or configured properly.

Can some one go through the process of over comming this in terms a
novicemight understand...

The instructions work. In addition though you need to forward/open TCP Port
1723 and enable GRE Protocol 47 traffic through any firewall/router you have
between the server and the public internet. The latter is sometimes called
"PPTP Pass Through" or "VPN Pass Through" or is automatically passed when
TCP Port 1723 is open, ie. the Windows Firewall for example. See the users
manual for the firewall/router for more help.

You can test the PPTP VPN link using the test detailed in the "PPTP Ping"
and "VPN Traffic" sections on this page...

If your firewall/router will not pass GRE Protocol 47 traffic, a common
issue with some consumer grade routers, then alternatives may be Secure
Shell (SSH), which is what I use and recommend, OpenVPN, SSL-Explorer or a
third-party solution like Hamachi.
