VPN problem

Hi all, still struggling with this VPN connectionbut have
got further. I am attempting to connect to the office
network with a laptop via VPN utilising the VPN server
software with Windows 2000 Pro. I have now managed to get
around the firewall problem I was having and can in fact
now connect to the network. Unfortunately, the system will
not let me access any of the network shares etc., the
error message tells me to see the network administrator (I
am that person). I have set the connection properties on
the VPN server to share the network, so what else am I
missing? Any ideas would be gratefully accepted.

Cheers

Try pinging the computers that have the shares you are trying to access by IP
address to establish network connectivity or not. If that works, ping them by
computer name to see if you have name resolution. It may also help to try to
access share by unc using IP address such as \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\sharename. If you
have an AD domain at work, try entering the domain name in the vpn connectoid to
see if that helps. You may have to select properties first to select show domain
name. If it is not a domain, make sure that their is a user account with the
same logon name/password on the target share server as what you are logging onto
the vpn server with. Enabling auditing for logon events on the share server may
also be helpful by examining the security log in Event Viewer for failed events
and the reason why. --- Steve
