fatdave,
You will not be able to access the remote network's shares by using
"server names". But it can be done by using ip addresses.
Can you ping the computers on the remote network by using ip
addresses? If you can, then you can access the shares. Not by
computer NAME but by ip address. Example: You have a computer on the
remote network named Server1 with an ip of 192.168.1.125 and it shares
its' hard drive as "C". First connect the VPN. Go to the command
prompt. You would then type "net use f: \\server1\c" (without the
quotes) and hit enter. This would allow you to access the remotes' c:
drive locally as drive f:
If it does not work the first time, disconnect and go to "network
connections" and right click the VPN
connection->properties->networking->Internet Protocol
TCIP->Properties->Advanced. Make sure the "use default gateway on
remote network" is checked. Connect and try again. If you get it to
work, you can make a little batch file with a shortcut on your desktop
so you won't need to type it everytime.

SHOULD HAVE READ "net use f: \\192.168.1.125\c"
