VPN Login Error with XP SP2

Hi,

Ever since I installed SP2, I cannot VPN to my office. The only thing that
changed was the installation of SP2.

When I login, it connects to the server, then comes back to tell me that it
doesn't recognize the user name and/or password (error 691) and gives me a
chance to complete that information again. No matter what I do, It doesn't
work. To add insult to injury, I cannot connect to my company website for
about 10 minutes.

I have a laptop that's on my same home network, same workgroup, and has XP
SP2, but it uses a wireless card. It can connect just fine on that one.

Any help you can give me?

thanks,
-Trish

Any errors in the VPN server? Have you tried another different username?

Hi,

I couldn't see in the errors on the VPN side. I checked both the firewall
(we use Watchguard) and the domain server. The firewall log just reports
that the domain server is closing the connection (see the log dump below). I
also tried unchecking the Windows Domain box in the VPN connection dialog.

The puzzling thing is the fact that the same user name and password work on
the laptops but not on the desktop. I also tried another user name that I
know works and I'm getting the same results.

thanks,
-Trish
