VPN Error 721

Need a help

I have just purchased Linksys BEFSX41 VPN/Firewall
router. I have opened the 1723, 47 and 53 TCP/UDP ports.
Also enable PPTP pass through.
I have set up Windows 2000 server routing and remote
access. When I tried to connect from external Windows XP
VPN connection I am getting error 721 while its verifying
user name and password. It does not pass further...

Please help me!!!

Thanks.

47 should be IP protocol port.

All PPTP needs is tcp port 1723 . The 500 ports are only required by
L2tp . Tcp port 47 has nothing to do with VPN at all.

What usually causes a 721 error is GRE. If GRE (IP protocol 47) is
blocked, the encapsulated data is blocked, so nothing goes through the
tunnel. The PPTP pass-through setting should have enabled that.

Have you forwarded tcp port 1723 from the router to the server's LAN IP?
Are you connecting to the router's public IP? Is the server's default
gateway set to the router?

Hi All,

I am having the same problem as well. The only thing differ is that I am
using Alcatel SpeedTouch 510i v4 with latest firmware. Even i did configure
the IP protocol GRE 47, but still having the same problem.

I have changed my router from the previous model SpeedStream 5200 (also
having the same problem - error 721) to SpeedStream 5660.

So far, my office ras server only worked on speedstram 5660.

Thanks!

Best Regards,
Andrew
