VPN Connection

Can anyone tell me how to view and access the files and
folders of a VPN host system? Once I successfully access
my office PC from home using a VPN tunnel, how can I see
the files of the computer at work?

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Open an Explorer window (not IE) and enter the path to the pc concerned in
the address field. E.g \\JPsPC

You will only be able to see the files that you can normally see across a
network i.e. the ones in SHARED folders.

If the computer requires logon, a dialog box will appear where you can enter
user and password. You will have to include the logon domain in the user
field if you didn't do so when you first logged on with the VPN connection
e.g. Suppose you normally log on to the domain "Dog" as user "JP", then you
will have to enter "Dog\JP" as the user in the user field. (Actually, it may
be a forward slash, not a back slash...I can never remember.)

Note that something on the home PC will need to do the name resolution
across this connection, if WINS is not being used. An LMHOSTS file might do
the trick:

See http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;180094

Note - the "padding spaces" for the domain name (0x1b) entry are very
important - be sure not to miscount!

Yes, it will be all command line unless they have a system
in place with a nice gui ( a vnc or remote desktop, etc ).
You need to type in the unc ( which is a standard format
used ) ( looks like \\server\folder\file
So as a user you need to know the path to the file or data
you want to access. Every thing you see at work on the
network will most likely be availble to you. Hope it helps
