volume decreases when using seek bar (not soundblaster issue)

About a week ago, I noticed the volume decreases when I move the seek bar,
and songs are "scratchy" in some places during playback. My sound card is
Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio and it has the latest drivers. I am using
Win XP Home w/ service pack 2, and I have plenty of memory and a 2.5 GHz
Pentium processor.

Any assistance/info is much appreciated!

Ok, the distortion was not present when I used the mplayer2 (C:\Program
Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe) to play some of the same songs that
had the most prominent distorition. So mplayer2 plays them fine, but not
wmp11. Does anyone know why this is? I've adjusted the volume in a variety
of ways on wmp11 w/ no improvement.
