Volume Control Problem

Something has affected the volume control on my computer. Every time I boot
up to XP the volume control is all the way down and I have no sound. I can
move the slider up with the mouse and hear sound for about a second until the
slider gets to the bottom. I have no system sounds, no music files play of
any kind. They are playing but the volume control is always at the lowest
setting. After using the computer for awhile the problem goes away and all is
well. But I cannot discover what has caused it to begin working and after
rebooting the problem comes back. Help please!!!!!

Extract the following file from your Windows XP CD :

sndvol32.exe

Place it in your Windows\System32 folder, overwriting the current one.

Did that help ?

Jerry, No this did not help. I replaced my sndvol32.exe file with a good one but it didn't help. When I reboot the volume slider is again at the bottom of the scale and hence no sound.

Hmmmmm, check all your music software (WMP, WinAmp, what ever you have etc)
to make sure the volume sliders there are not at zero.

Cheers,
