Volume Control Icon

My volume control icon refuses to 'Show' I can get back into Taskbar
Properties and get in back for a while, then it disappears again.
Any way to make it stay put?

Try control panel, task bar/start icon, task bar,set speaker to "always show"
apply,close out.

Dave,
May I add to Andrew's comments, that if,. in the unlikely event that
the "Hide inactive icons" box on 'Start Menu' properties, has not been
'checked', then why not create a desktop shortcut to the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sndvol32.exe

....or, you could place this in your 'Quick Launch' menu (as well).

Thank you gentlemen -
For some reason, setting the 'Always show' option only works for a short
time (a few minutes), then nothing. The desktop icon isn't quite as handy,
but it sure beats nothing.

Thank you again - the tips are much appreciated

Does the Always Show option change, or does the speaker just not show? If
the setting actually changes:

Settings that become unchecked, or do not stick, may be caused by one or
more of the following programs. There are probably others that will do it as
well.

Ad-Aware's Ad-Watch
F-Secure Internet Security 2007
IBM Access Connections
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Nod32
Norton Anti-Virus
SpywareBlaster
Spybot Tea Timer
SpySweeper
Spyware Doctor
CounterSpy
AVG Anti-Spyware
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (Free, Pro, & Security Suite).

I just had the same problem with changing settings in the SysTray myself and
removed Windows Defender. Everything was fine for two days so I added it
back and there is still no problem.

Is your Taskbar locked? It is quite possible that if you have more
startups with taskbar icons than you do space for them it may just be
hidden. This is usually dependent on the order in which they load.
Right Click on an empty part of the taskbar and unlock the taskbar. You
will then be able to drag out to a larger size and reveal the icon if it
is there.

You can change the size of your notification area anytime you like?

Interesting.

Again, thank you all -
The Always Show option does not change. Usually (but not always) going thru
Properties will not even cause the icon to appear. I don't have any of the
programs Bruce mentioned, however, I recently removed AdAware but I have not
seen any change in the Volume icon. I also have Spybot, but I removed
TeaTimer. Of course I have a lot of other routines - who knows. (I get
virus, and spam filter, thru my ISP)

Re: the notifying area, there is plenty of room there, and I never lock the
taskbar.

Isn't there a Windows repair option via CP/Add-Delete? I am wondering if
that would do any good?

Thx again
Dave
