Colin:

I found the cause for VistaBootPro 2.1 not functioning properly.
After installing VBP on the 4400x2 tower I had the same error that you
received. On startup there were multiple Vista lines after earlier systems.
I probably went the long way around because I deleted the Vista x64
partition then couldn't delete the boot file (hidden system file) from the
boot drive. On the 4400x2 there was a long list of files below the "EN-US"
and "FONTS" folders in the boot folder. On the FX51 system there were only:
1 BCD, 2 BCD.Backup.0001, 3 BCD.log, 4 bootfix.bin, 5 bootstat.dat, 6
fixfat.exe, 7 fixntfs.exe and 8 memtest.exe. I deleted all files except
memtest.exe (wouldn't delete) on the 4400x2 system, then reinstalled RC1
x64. Now VBP 2.1 runs properly on the 4400x2. The only files in the boot
folder are: 1 BCD, 2 BCD.log and memtest.exe on the 4400x2 system. Possibly
just editing the boot folder will work. Time for bed because my eyes won't
stay open.

Ted:
Boot into an operating system other than Vista, under options "show
all files. In the left column click the "boot" directory, in the right
column delete the files under the "EN-US" and "FONTS" folders except for; 1
BCD, BCD.log, and memtest.exe.

Have you tried running it under Windows XP to edit the bootloader? Also, try
right clicking the executable and choose Run As Administrator. I will
contact the developer about the issue.

It does work in 5600. Must be installed and run as Admin.

I have used it to manage my two Vistas.

Have installed Vista Ultimate "genuine"
and Vista HomePremium as 14days eval.

With BootPro I can give them the right names in the Loader.

I don't know if it is any consolation but I have reverted to XP Pro and
DG it is great to have a stable OS that does what it should.

I hope Vista can do so equally well, soon, swift and on time

My problem is I can't get to XP easily without running VBP in Vista. Catch
22.

It fails with an error message for me.

Colin:

Are you using VistaBootPro 2.1? I couldn't get VistaBootPro 2.0
to install on my AMD 4400x2 towers but 2.1 installed with beta 2. I don't
have RC1 installed on these towers yet because of raid concerns with RC1. My
third tower is a FX51 with a 940 chipset (don't laugh too much) running 4
partitions, x64, Vista RC1 x86, Vista RC1 x64 and Files/downloads. Right
click the installation icon to run as administrator, during installation
check "remove previous versions" and it installed properly & works with
Vista RC1 x86 & x64 on the FX51. I hope to have the 4400x2 systems running
this weekend or early next week.

VistaBootPro 2.1 works fine here...installed on the XP partition, which I've
found is the best place.

Version 2.1 works fine for me as well in 5600
Or you could just use an elevated command prompt and type the commands in
manually ;)

They say it should just work. Nevertheless I still get "Index and count
must refer to a location within the string - parameter name Count." I have
tried copying bcdedit.exe from the system folder into the VBP folder as I
have done a couple of times in the past to fix things like this but no luck
this time.

Yes, 2.1 freshly downloaded. It worked fine through 5472. I get "Index and
Count must refer to a location within the string - parameter name Count." I
have, as in the past, run the installer as Admin as well as the program. I
understand the basics. It just isn't working.

That's nice except it is the XP partition I need VBP to get me into. Unless
I want to use the traditional fixes.

I wasn't trying to doubt your ability; you've helped me too much
in the past. Using the FX51 isn't a good test because the bios is old and
some things function differently. I'll retest and report back what I find
when I get Vista RC1 x64 running on the 4400x2 tower.

I'm using the same cpu so that will be helpful.
