"Today, PROnetworks announced that VistaBootPRO 2.0 Beta, the newest version
of the original program developed by the PROnetworks Betas Team and the Beta
Testing Forum, is now available for download. This is an update to the
original VistaBootPRO 1.0 Beta. There are lots of new features and improved
GUI interface. Full support for Windows Vista Beta 2 and Build 5456 has been
added as well.

VistaBootPRO has proven quite popular because it is used to make changes to
the Windows Vista Boot Configuration Data (BCD) registry quickly and easily,
doing the job in a fraction of the time it would take using the alternative.
The only other way to edit the BCD is to use the command prompt application
bcdedit.exe, located in the Windows\system32 folder of Windows Vista.
bcdedit.exe requires users to become familiar with the ins and outs of the
bcdedit.exe application switches and options, leaving many frustrated users
in its path.

The Vista Boot Configuration Data (BCD) Store has replaced the boot.ini file
from Windows XP and earlier. In multi-boot scenarios where users have both
Windows Vista and an older version of Windows installed, the BCD
"interfaces" with the boot.ini file to perfect multi-booting.

VistaBootPRO 2.0 Beta, while being feature complete and fully functional, is
still a Beta application and is an ongoing project. VistaBootPRO's continued
development and functionality will need input from all Windows Vista users.
PROnetworks invites the public to use VistaBootPRO and give feedback on your
experience with it.

VistaBootPRO can be used to make some basic "cosmetic" changes to the Vista
Boot Menu in a dual boot scenario, such as renaming the entries from the
standard "Earlier versions of Windows" and "Microsoft Windows" to nicer and
for more intuitive names. It also has advanced functionality options of all
shapes and colors for power users allowing the adding of operating systems
to the boot menu and removing of redundant/dead entries, as well as a many
other features."

I downloaded version 2.0 yesterday.
I works quickly and flawlessly so far.

I had to reload Vista due to several problems I was having including the
PCCillin which wouldn't finish loading and many problems with Windows Mail
where I could only read newsgroups but was unable to send mail.

After reloading Vista, It wanted to boot to Vista by default without any
options of changing the boot order.

I should add that I have a dual boot between XP Pro and Vista on different
Disks and even XP only shows one Boot Path.

ProNetworks allowed me to change the boot order and It was so easy.

I highly recommend the program.

Computer Guru who wrote the code for this and was subsequently booted out of
ProNetworks for his pains has had his own application "EasyBCD" out for ages
which covered the latest betas.

Just FYI for you and Neosmart, Computer Guru did not write a single line of code
that is in VistaBootPRO 2.0, the entire program has been written from scratch in
house by a few members of Beta Team. Computer Guru also did not write everything
for VistaBootPRO 1.0, at least not in the early stages of its development.
EasyBCD 1.1 is nearly an exact copy of the original VistaBootPRO, I have looked
at the full source of it (I'll email you if you want), and then compared it to
the source of the in-house/unreleased version of VistaBootPRO 1.1 and also
VistaBootPRO 1.0, and there were not many changes.

Sure...email me the source for both of them...

You know fellas...

This really isn't the place for this arguement. Not that I'm always on
topic, (see post topic "TECHTAK Today") but it's just annoying. If one of
you believes that the other stole their code, take it to court and leave us
out of it...

It was so much easier to blame it on Them.
It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us.
If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault.
If it was us, what did that make Me?
After all, I'm one of Us. I must be.
I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them.
No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them.
We're always one of Us.
It's Them that do the bad things.

Most of us who post have used and appreciated both of these apps and do not
choose sides and enjoy the sites for what they bring. I try to introduce
both of them when the situation applies, and in many posts I offer
alternatives as well without using BCEDIT depending on the situation. I
appreciate the work that Mark Deitz and his group did that benefits many as
well as the other app.

Many fixes can also be accomplished in XP by accessing c:/boot fixntfs
switches. Not much has been written on this on this group but some has on
bootrec accessed via the Vista DVD and fixntfs.
