vista windows mail - can receive, but can't send

Here's my version of this common problem...I set up Windows Vista Mail on my
new presario notebook *exactly* the way I had it set up on my hp pavilion
that runs XP on the same network, and I can send one email and then the rest
sit in the outbox until I reboot the computer, and then I can send one more
email...etc. I called my ISP and they didn't know what to tell me.

Here's the error:
"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Re: trampoline', Account: '(e-mail address removed)', Server:
'smtp-server.cfl.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F"

Thanks in advance for your help.

See if this leads you to any instructions that help:

You may have a corrupted message in your Outbox. Try moving the messages
there to your Drafts folder or deleting them. If any refuse to do either,
download
and install this hotfix with Windows Mail not running:

This problem is often indicative of interference from a non-compatible
antivirus. Which antivirus are you running?

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the info on setting up Windows Mail for use with Road Runner. I
have read and reread the instructions, and I believe I am following them, but
still have the problem.

Also I don't seem to have a problem with any particular outgoing message
being corrupted...I can move a message that didn't get transmitted back to my
drafts folder, and then try to send another message, and that one doesn't go
either, but if I reboot my computer I can send one message and then
subsequent sends will produce the error.

My problem must lie elsewhere...

Hi Gary,
I have Webroot Spy Sweeper with AntiVirus. The packaging indicates that it
runs with Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium, which is what I have. What do
you think?
Thanks for your help.

Hm, if I go into the Spy Sweeper configuration and turn off the "Email
Attachments Shield" I am able to send email with reckless abandon. I will
call Webroot...thanks again for your help...

You're welcome.
Windows Mail does not take kindly to any interference from
third party security programs.

I'm new to internet & emails so thought my inability to use the facility was
my fault but having read so many messages of complaint makes me wonder where
the fault lies.
Thanks for the opportunity to read through the enclosed list.

This is a newsgroup, not sent by email. It's used by many of the people
seeking
help with the Windows Mail program that comes with Vista.

If you need help connecting to your bigpond.com account, see here:

http://www.bigpond.com/help/email/

They don't seem to have written instructions for Windows Mail yet, but
their instructions for Outlook Express should also work under Windows
Mail if they don't call for the HTTP protocol.
