Vista will "Save As" downloaded Install files but then moves them.

I'm using Vista RC1 5600.

I have manged to install a couple of programs such as Macromedia Flash but
for all other attempted installs from downloads I'm having problems.

When I go to "Run" a download & install from the web Vista doesn't complete
- it seems to download the file the the install just doesn't happen - this
has happened with Avast, pc-cillin and happens with One Care too!

When I save the "Setup.exe" file to a new purpose built folder on C:\New
Foler it does save it there but then moves it somewhere. (I know because i
saved a huge file and for a few hundereths of a second a window popped up
saying copying files to .....and that's as far as I could read).

Anyone able to help.

I have UAC off and no AV software loaded and turned Prot-Mode off to try to
solve it.

Stumped.

I think if you don't download using IE, this will not happen. Try
Firefox or a download manager.

I haven't had any problems with downloading files with RC1 or IE7. Have you
checked the default folder for your downloads? (Check under / Users / YOUR
USER NAME / Downloads folder).

Thanks folks.

It wasn't the folders thing - I had checked that extensively.

The firefox solution worked - although i couldn't download firefox via IE7!!

Luckily I found an old magazine cover DVD!

Cheers - kinda an obvious solution I guess.

If I eventually find where windows put those files - I'll let you know!

I actually have two machines. My "production" machine is XP Pro. My test
machine uses BootIt NG to multi-boot MSDN versions of all the Microsoft
OS's I could get my hands on, including Vista x86 and x64.

I download all my software on the XP production machine and put it in a
shared location. Then I install the software to my test system(s) over
my LAN.

This works very well, but you need two machines.
