Vista updates reboot Computer without permission

Yesterday I was working on my desktop computer when windows I had open
started to to close in an orderly fashion one by one. When what was
obviously a restart began I got a message on the order of 'Installing
Updates' (don't recall it exactly) Today, working on my notebook I got a
window saying that updates had been installed and counting down to a reboot.
It gave me an option to postpone, I did so selecting 1 hour. A couple of
minutes ago, as I was programming, windows began shutting down with no
warning whatsoever and the machine rebooted. Is Microsoft actually wrestling
control of my computer from we without my permission? It did not give me
time to make 'save' responses to the message boxes. I'm appalled

Thanks Rick, appreciate the update and will pass it on to my clients. I
guess I better make this newsgroup regular reading. I still can't believe
that any programmer would have such a total lack of concern for end users as
to shut the machine down without permission without an opportunity to save
one's work.
