Vista Ultimate Slow Startup

Everything was fine, until I installed last Tuesday's updates.
Suddenly, it is taking my Vista Ultimate computer 5 minutes to boot
up. I ran a boot log and a whole lot of things were not loading.
After trial and error, I discovered that the cause was my Symantec
Ghost 12. I contacted Symantec and the guy in India blamed my
defragging software, which isn't running and which has co-existed
happily with Vista and Ghost for months. Has anyone else had any
problems with the latest updates? Thanks.

On a side note, I just installed the new McAfee Security Center, since
PC Cillian was making me crazy. When I launched Eudora, I received
the BSOD. McAfee blames my firewall. Disabling McAfee's e-mail
scanner solved the issue. Don't these techies have any experience?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

Thanks for the advice. I use Eudora, and never Mail nor Outlook.
