Vista Storage Requirements

I have new Lenovo laptop that came with Vista pre-installed. However, Vista
is currently using 60 G of the hard drive -- I wonder if there are
guidelines/suggestions on what can be deleted or otherwise removed to reduce
that footprint.

The machine came with a 90 G drive - I did not realize that Vista would need
anywhere near 60 G itself.

Perform a Disk Cleanup:

Click on the blue Vista start button and then on the Computer
entry in the Start Menu. Right-click on your hard drive and
select Properties > Disk Cleanup > Files from all users.....
More Options > Clean Up (System Restore and Shadow Copies).

Vista, by itself, uses about 12 gig of drive space. Crapware loaded by the
computer manufacturer can use "whatever.

Then you have your pagefile and hiberfile which are part of the operating
system. Each of these is equal to the amount of RAM installed in the
computer. You have various system restore points that can use up to 15% of
the hard drive space by default. You may also have an 6-8 gig recovery
partition, placed there by the manufacturer, to restore your computer to
"out of the box" condition.

These all add up.

Start by uninstalling any program that you have no intention of using. Don't
forget to reboot and then empty your recycle bin.
