Vista freezes often

Hello,

I have the following Prblem: My Notebook with Windows Vista freezes
regularly. After 10-20 seconds all is running fine again till it freezes
again.

In the Failureprotocoll of Windows the following errormessage is generated
when such a freeze occurs:

Source: atapi
Event ID: 11
Description: Driver founds a controllerfailure at \Device\IDE\IDEPort0
(translated from german)

Originally my Notebook is an Acer Extensa 4101WLMI (Pentium M730, ATI
Mobility Radeon x700, 1 GB Ram)

I am using a new harddisk (160GB) and Windows Vista instead of XP.

Thx for helping me in advance.

Hi,

Check to see if there is an updated driver for the controller cable from the
manufacturer of the device. Normally I would also tell you to reseat or
replace the controller cable as well, but as it is a notebook this may not
be practical for you. You may need to bring it to a shop for this, check to
see if it's under warranty and if so, get a work order created. Otherwise,
find a reputable local pc repair shop (meaning not your local equivalent of
an office superstore, but a real repair shop) and have them do it for you.
