Vista Backup applet failed to launch

I am having trouble to get Vista Ultimate to backup. The backup applet which
allows me to select where to backup to does not start, and it gives an
internal generic error (80080005). The backup log contains only something
like GUID=dbd33fcd-cfba-5174-7b1a-a59ff2eef057 (No Format Information found).
No error log, just informational. The backup does work right after I install
ultimate and maybe office. As for other software, I only have Acrobat Reader
and McAfee installed. I even reinstalled Vista, but after a while, the backup
problem shows up. I could not use Full backup or File backup. Any one can
point me to a solution?

I have the same problem:

I created a full backup 22/07/2007 for the last 2 weeks I have tried to
backup the PC, when I start the full backup the following message appears
after about 1 – 2 minutes

The backup application could not start due to an internal error: Server
execution failed (0x80080005)

I am having exactly the same problem. I have not found any replys with a
solution.

I should probably supply a bit more information. I once successfuly did a
full backup on 10/26/2007. I placed it on an external USB hard drive. Then
I made a minor change to my configuration and added an 80 gig PATA hard drive
to my system. This cause the drive letters to change. Originally my backup
drive was drive K:. After the change and adding some new USB memory type
devices the drive became G:. The backup utility said it couldn't find my
backup anymore. Also I completely removed the backup archive and tlhe
MediaID.bin file from the original hard drive because it was too old and
because the system was having trouble finding the original archive. So I
thought that changing the G: to K: would fix the problem but it didn't fix
it. Then I tried to start a new full system backup and and I got the error
mentioned earlier. I suspect that there is something in the registry that is
holding on to old information and is the real cause of this problem. I think
there is a flaw in the Microsoft design that allows one to get stuck in this
situation. I need help soon because I can't backup my system fully. I can
do normal backups with now problem.
