Vista 64 - Unable to receive mail

I have a brand new Vista Home Premium 64 bit machine.

All mail settings are identical to those from Outlook Express on my old
Windows XP machine (I set them up side by side and compared). There are no
stored messages except the welcome message.

Send/receive produces no error messages. It does send messages but does not
receive them. I can see that messages are waiting on the server by using a
webmail service.

Windows Live mail can't be installed on this OS. I haven't tried third party
mail programs yet. Any ideas on other things to try?

Just to let Shawn know - I followed his advice and want to say it worked
perfectly. I am now receiving all my emails. In addition it suggested I
import my emails before I proceeded. Did - but when I restarted my laptop
after downloading the fix, all my emails were still appearing. Thank you -
thank you

Mary

Thankyou Shawn. I hadn't tried that because it sounded specific to the outbox
and I had no mail there.

brink , thanks for all your info ; I had to end up downloading Windows live
mail ; as all other solutions didn't help.
