Vista 5728 genuine advantage problem

Hi,

I'm a MSDN and CPP tester, upgraded a box from XP MCE to Vista RC1 ultimate,
but was disappointed the DVD codec had problems on the AMD K7 processor.
Upgraded that build to 5728 this morning. Both my MSDN and my CPP keys will
activate the box, but it's always listed as not genuine. Hence no Aero, no
non-critical updates. Both keys are completely kosher, and I've not used them
on > 5 boxes.

Why am I being labelled a pirate? :p

This is a known issue. As long as you know where you got your keys, you
should be fine.

I don't know what Aero has to do with this. What are you talking about?
Aero is the theme just like Luna was the theme for XP. Are you talking
about Glass?

Windows Genuine Advantage should pass your box fine. Click the WGA link in
the lower right of the System Properties page and follow the directions to
install the ActiveX control and validate your Windows. Then you should see
a message telling you that you can now access resources available to genuine
windows users.

Unfortunately not, Colin. I can get genuine downloads off the website,
validates fine, but as Tom pointed out, this will be a bug in the activation
code somewhere in Windows itself. Thus the ActiveX control, although it sees
the key as kosher, doesn't redeem my system as a whole. Works fine for MS
downloads though.

In regards to Aero, yes I mean glass, but I was quoting the dialog box at
startup which reads "Windows Aero is not working" and explains that it
doesn't believe the key is genuine. Interestingly, it doesn't mention the
word "glass" in the dialog, just Aero, although I do get the Aero basic
interface; I'm not forced back into full "classic" mode. I still want glass
however, dammit! ;)

I've filed my activation logs using the beta client reporting tool,
hopefully they will be helpful to someone at MS.

Calling Microsoft was really easy for me but it was late at night so
perhaps the call holds were fairly empty.
