Visioneer 7300 and USB

The Visioneer 7300 is a bus powered USB scanner, so no power cable is
necessary. Does this type of scanner use more system resources than a
traditional flatbed scanner? I keep thinking there must be some drawbacks
to a USB-powered scanner because most flatbed models that I have seen are
not configured that way.

USB powered scanners use a different detector technology (CIS rather
than CCD) with simpler optics and lower power requirements.
Advantages: Small, inexpensive, functional, works well for paper and prints.
Disadvantages: Low depth of field, not for slides, film or highly
textured objects. Not finest art quality. Great for OCR on the go.
