The virus corrupted the Files/folders, you need to Back them up then try the
System File Checker from a command prompt like this:
Open Run command and type in: sfc /scannow click [OK] and get your XP CD
handy to insert it in if the system prompt you to do so.
HTH.

What you mean by disks? Are they CDs? If so, were you able to see contents on
your CD before your system meant with Virus infection?

If yes, that means you are guessing it wrong. Because Virus or Trojan can
not corrupt data on CDs as they are CD-R [Compact Disc - Read Only]. Only the
Disc Writing Software can use them to write data.

See, if your CD has scratches. Try to clean them with a soft cloth and then
play. If that doesn't help then try someone's new CDROM or Combo Drive to
recover the data. Because sometimes newly installed ROMs can read from
scratches.

Hope this help, let us know!

It is a CD-R disk with pictures on it that she could view on her computer
before it was corrupted. Now she can't view any of her CD disks and I can't
access them on my computer either. I'm not sure what drives she has but I
have tried the disk in both of mine - a lightscribe DVD/CD writer and a DVD
ROM. Any ideas?
Thanks

Are the disks "Closed" ( Table of Contents written ) ? Perhaps they
were originally created using a "Multisession" recording method. A
optical disk could only contain Viruses/Malware if it was present in
the source material at the time of the burning.

The only possible reason could be bad CD with scratches. Try cleaning the CD
with soft cloth.

If the CD become useless to you and before you put it into the Trash, try
cleaning it with only water. Sometime it works. Once the drive access the CD,
immediately Copy the files to hard disc.

Hope this help, let us know!
