That's the reason I'd like the 'Bounce' feature to work -
to hopefully make these people think the addy is no longer
available. Just dreamin' I guess.

I've accidentally blacklisted people I didn't intend to
blacklist. When bouncing used to work, they would get the
MAILER-DAEMON message returned to them.

"Does bouncing make any sense?"

What Sonia said.

I really like MailWasher, even if that feature doesn't
work. It's nice to be able to preview messages and toss
them before they reach your Inbox.

A lot of spammers don't care if messages bounce.

Do you think spammers have the time or inclination to clean a list?

Most people are receivint these messages.....You are receiving them most
likely because they are viruses more than spam.

Same here. It does no good to bounce them really. Spam is sent by people
who don't care if *you* don't want to hear from them. They're betting on 1%
or 2% of the people opening their junk and then possibly hooking them. They
buy lists from other people. No one every scrubs the lists. The funny
thing is that about 10% of the spam I'm getting these days is from people
selling spam killer software. There's some sort of irony in that. Kinda
like the snake who eats his own tail.

Thanks Michael. I haven't changed the settings since I

I wonder if it's because the sender uses a bogus email
addy? I always add these to the blacklist and almost
never get messages from a particular address twice. The
blacklist just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Sonia,

I see that you use MailWasher Pro. I still have the free
application and for several months I haven't been able to
get it to 'bounce' unwanted emails back to the sender.
Does the Pro version work properly as far as bouncing
them
back?

I've thought of upgrading but haven't because of this
issue.

They've probably blacklisted you in return. LOL! The message I quoted was
a "bounce" message from MailWasher yesterday, so it does work. To test it,
send yourself an email. Then in MailWasher bounce it. Check mail in
MailWasher and in a few minutes you should receive the bounce message you
just sent yourself.

Kathryn Jacobs

Interesting thing though, I've been getting them on my main email (because
it is posted here) all week. While it is driving me nuts, I am accepting it.
Weirdness 1 is that I just got two on one of my "hidden" accounts. Weirdness
2 is that answers hasn't gotten any yet.

I suppose not!

I guess I just like things to work the way they're
supposed to. I used to think that same thing about some
of my former co-workers.

I've tried that and it doesn't work. I even tried
uninstalling the program, deleting everything then
downloaded it again and re-installed. I get a "failed to
bounce" message.

I still like the program, though and am glad to have it.
Especially now.

Well..just after I found the Block sender feature, I was so busy blocking
all the spam that I somewho wound up blocking myself. :-( Took me a week to
figure it out. This may be hard to believe, but, to make matters even worse,
a friend told me how I could block trolls and offensive posters and
responders on the newsgroups (some can be really rasty), well...somehow I
highlighted myself, and then could not figure out why I could not see my
replies or posts on the newsgroups. Guess there are some new toys should not

Yea, talk about adding insult to injury, now that I pretty much have
the bogus e-mail stuff under control, none since about 2:00p PST,
I'm now getting a ton of spam from Norton and several other virus
and spam killer people too. So, *now* I have to keep updating all
the Message Rules and such for them too. :-((

Out of the 17 spams I've had in the last 30 minutes, all but 4 have been
about Norton. Don't know how they are getting generated, but, it sure won't
look good for them and the rest of those companies when it appears they are
trying to cash in on of the Swen scare.

Jan :)

That sounds like an account set up problem. Check to be sure that the SMTP
server address is correct under the Bouncing and outgoing mail tab.
