VirtualDeviceDriver Registry Key

R

Ron

I got an error message. Following suggestion in Knowledge
Base Article #254914, I attempted to delete and add a new
VirtualDeviceDriver value. There was no current value
entered in my
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Virtual
DeviceDrivers subdirectory. However, when I attempted to
add a new value, it told me there was already one there.
So, again, following the article, I deleted the whole
VirtualDeviceDrivers registry key. Whoops. I forgot that
there was no instruction about how to recreate it!

Can someone help me recreate my VDD registry key so I can
add a VDD value? Thanks.
Ron

Virtual Device Driver Error Message in 16-Bit MS-DOS Subsystem
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q254/9/14.ASP

The article is pretty straight-forward. You'll need to use
regedt32.exe.regedit.exe cannot create Reg_Multi_Sz strings. If you need to
recreate the VirtualDeviceDrivers key; highlight the key (in the left-hand
pane), then Edit|Delete Then (in the left-hand pane) position the cursor on
the "Control" key, (so you'll be creating directly under "Control") then
Edit|Add Key, then for the "Key Name:"
VirtualDeviceDrivers
You can leave the "Class:" blank Then proceed with steps four through seven.

Make sure your doing this logged on as local administrator.

Hi-

I had this problem, made the change in the registry and now, instead o
getting an error message, the DOS window shell opens, a quick flash o
something and then closes out. No installation or unpacking o
anything?

I should also point out that the icon is a generic "Dos window" ico
for all of the ones I am having a problem with and there are quite
few.
