How to fix invalid VDD format in Registry?

C

Cacique

It all started after I tried to remove Norton AV 2005. I started getting
this error message:

"An installable Virtual Device Driver failed DLL initialization. Choose
'Close' to terminate the application."

I found this article on the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;254914&Produc...

I have followed the instructions but continue to keep getting the following
error now:

"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device
Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application."

I've ran Regedt32.exe, I've deleted the VDD value, and recreated it. I've
even deleted the VirtualDeviceDrivers registry key and VDD key and values
and recreated them. I keep getting the error.

I'm starting to pull my hair out! What should I try next?

Did you remember to add VDD as a REG_MULTI_SZ data type, with no data entered?

Hi, yes I used REG_MULTI_SZ and left it blank, but it didn't work for me
right away. I had tried recreating those keys about 5 days ago, and I
continued getting errors immediately afterwards. After just trying it again
today, it seems to be working. Perhaps it takes a few reboots before all
the changes are initialized. Anyway, it seems ok now. Thanks!
