Virtual PC 2004

I had Virtual PC 2004 installed under XP - SP1 and it was running just
fine. After upgrading to Service Pack 2, I lost my network connectivity and
eventually wound up uninstalling VPC. Now I have reinstalled it and I'm
still having the same problem. My network adapter is a Via Rhine II Fast
Ethernet Adapter. In Virtual PC is shows up as Intel 21140 Based PCI Fast
Ethernet Adapter. From what I've read, this is normal and I believe that's
the same as it was in SP1. Not only will it not browse my network, it will
not connect to the internet. I have Windows ME as my only virtual drive at
present, but before I had Windows 98 and Windows Professional 2000 as well
and none of them would connect to the network.
On top of that, when I close ME and close Virtual PC, my host machine has
also lost its connectivity and requires a reboot to recover it.
I've Googled around a bit looking for an answer but I still haven't come up
with anything. Any ideas?

Well, it has been now. But it didn't cure the problem.
Under Settings - Networking, I have chosen the Via Rhine Adapter which is
always the way I had it set before. However, just experimenting, I changed
it to "Shared Networking". Then Network Places showed the workgroup name,
but only the VPC machine. Still no connection to the rest of the network or
the internet. And it killed the host connection again, requiring another
reboot. What do I try next?
