Virtual memory/Swapfile

When I start my computer there comes an error message
that says that my Virtual Memory/Swapfile is too small.
So I go and change it. Theres some instructions there
saying that smallest possible value for it is 2mb, the
current is 256 and recommended is 766. I change the
values to 766 min and 1500 max, press ok, start computer,
the usual. But when the computer starts up again it still
complaints about the same stuff. I go and check the
settings again and it says that current is still 256. Why
dosen't it change to values I put there? I've tried loads
of different values but nothing seems to work. I also
tried to let the computer set the right values but it
didn't work either.
