my pc was originally 256mb. My mother board has only two spots for ram so i
replaced the 256mb and added two 512mb making 1g. my page file size reads
288mb still is this norm. Will my pc automatically know i have more ram or is
there a setting to change? Does virtual memory have anything to do with the

Should adjust automatically. Tweak it only if you have performance
issues.

Yes. There are several formulas to calculate optimum page file size
from physical memory size. (Depends on OS)

Again, don't mess with the defaults unless you have a good reason.

Insofar as Windows XP is concerned pretty much all of those formulas
and "rules of thumb" are pure hogwash.
