Viewing Photos as Slideshow

I have Windows XP Professional on both my desktop AND notebook computers. I
can view photos in Windows Explorer/Microsoft Picture Viewer as a slideshow
on my notebook but not on my desktop.

How do I access the slideshow feature on my desktop when I can find no
buttons, icons or menu options for View as slideshow?

Thanks,

If you right click on a photo, do you get a list of options, one of them
being Preview?

Yes, Preview is one of the options. However, when I click on Preview, I
still get no option to view as a slideshow.

What do you get when you click on Preview? Does the photo open? If the
photo opens, are there no icons under the photo?

I get only arrows under the photo that would allow me to view a previous or
next photo. And, I get the zoom icon allowing me to zoom in or out.

On my notebook computer version of Windows XP, there is a line of icons,
including one for view as slideshow, under the photo. That is NOT the case
on my desktop.

Can you start the slideshow by pressing F11?

No, I cannot get a slideshow to start by pressing F11. I opened Windows
Explorer, selected a picture file (.jpg) and hit the F11 button. That took
away the masthead and made the view nearly full screen.

Put several jpgs into a folder. Right click on one of them and select
Preview. When the picture displays, hit the F11 key. The picture will fill
the screen and if you wait a few seconds, the next picture will pop up. When
you want it to stop, hit the escape key.

I did as you suggested. Hitting the F11 key did nothing at all - the photo
did not fill the screen; the software did not start a slideshow.

When I right mouse click on a photo, Microsoft Picture Viewer launches. I
have a window showing the photo as a large image, menus across the top of the
window (file, edit, view, etc.) and a status bar at the bottom along with the
task bar. There are no buttons for "view as slideshow" and no option in any
menu across the top for a slideshow.

I did check "Fold Options" to see how my folder is tagged. The folder is
listed as a "Photo Album." I also just discovered that if I set Windows
Explorer to show commands on the left side that are available for that folder
or file AND if the folder option is set to "Photo Album," XP lists "view as
slideshow" in the column to the left of the window listing the files in that
folder. If I click on that command, I do get a slideshow of all the photos
in the folder. Finally!

I guess something is screwy with my software since the F11 key does not work
and I don't have the same icons/links available in my desktop version of XP
Professional. I don't have a clue how to fix that.

But, at least I can now view photos as a slideshow.

If you have any additional ideas, I'd be glad to have them. Thanks to all
for your suggestions and troubleshooting.

You should download Irfanview. It is free and has a better slideshow. It has
a better everything. Don't forget to get the plugins also.
