Viewing movie on TV problem

I have a laptop connected to my TV. The desktop and the player I am
using to view the movie are showing on the TV but when I start a movie,
it shows on the laptop but not the TV screen. Media player, PowerDVD and
Realplayer do not work. The TV screen shows everything on the laptop
except the actual movie. It is just a black screen where the movie
should be playing. Audio works fine. I assume since I can see the the
desktop on the TV, everything is connected right. Any ideas why I can
watch the movie on the laptop but not the TV.

Same thing was happening to me, and it took me a while to figure out, but it
is quite simple.

Go to the control panel > Overlay tab> Overal Display Mode

Make sure "Same on all" setting is selected.

Apply the settings, and you should now be able to watch movies on your
TV....
