Video trouble after installing RealPlayer

After installing the latest RealPlayer I now have lock-up trouble after
playing a video in "normal" mode, but no trouble in full-screen Show mode.
After playing the video, I get an MCI error "The specified device is now
being closed. Wait a few seconds, and then try again." At that point,
PowerPoint is completely hung up, and I have to go to Task Manager and kill
the process.

Uninstalling RealPlayer did not help. Are there some settings/files that
have been overwritten? How can I fix this?

I saw another similar post on this list, but the user had installed some
video editing software, then removed that software to fix the problem, but
that did not work here (uninstalling RealPlayer).

Thanks.

Yes, Real Player has probably modified the MCI settings on your system and they
are not corrected even if you uninstall RP. That's why I never allow it to be
installed on my system.

Go to http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm and
carefully read section 3. At the end you'll find the lists of what your
settings should be. You need to ensure that everything in the list matches your
system settings exactly. If you have any on your system that are not listed on
the web page, that's okay.
