It appears your problem has nothing at all to do with PowerPoint. (If you
can't capture the video and sound). I suggest talking to the folks you
bought the hardware and software from.

Here is a tutorial on recording your presentation to VHS. Perhaps you can
use this technique to play your presentation on the TV through the VCR and
run some capturing software on your computer to create a digital video file.
I would recommend Camtasia to do that capture. There is a trial version
available so it won't cost you anything to try.

Record PPT to VHS:

Windows Media Recorder might be a good option as well, but I believe its
interface isn't as intuitive.

Thank you for finally posting this information. If I recall correctly,
Dazzle by default creates videos that use a proprietary codec, so they often
need to be re-rendered using settings more compatible with PPT. And one or
another of the Pinnacle products seems to overwrite some codecs PPT needs in
order to play video.

Since you're not even getting to the point where you've got a digital video
to work with, then we don't need to go that route with troubleshooting.

Coach,

It sounds like you are trying to do some altogether new things with your
students so I thought we can see if we can sort through your situation.
From your various posts you want to do something like this.

You have a VCR tape with content and want to capture it to a computer file
so you can use it in various ways, one of them being PowerPoint. To do this
you have bought both hardware and software to do the capturing work.
Apparently this is not working and you have been unable to resolve it. Once
you have the video on your computer you would like to put it in a PowerPoint
presentation and then show it on two TVs at the same time. Is that pretty
much it?

So lets do this. Collect the model numbers of your hardware and the version
numbers of your software and then post the information in this same thread.
With that I think we might be able to solve the first issue, capturing the
video correctly for later use. Then we can look at where you want to use
it.

I have done this in the following manner:
1. I installed a capture card in my computer (Osprey 210 good but
expensive). I took the composite output (rew, white and yellow) from the
vcr to the inputs of the capture card. I ran Windows Media Encoder (free
download) and captured the input to a WMV file. I can then insert in
PowerPoint or just play in Windows Media Player. The Dazzle method should
work if you have their capture card.

I think at this point you need to contact the people at Pinnacle for
support.

Once you get your VHS video digitized, we can try to help you if you can't
get it to play in PPT.

How exactly do you expect that we can help you with this?

You need to call the Pinnacle support line.

can you give me a number?
You should start here: http://www.pinnaclesys.com and check out the support
links.

Mike--this might be a good time to ask for help from someone who can sit
next to you at the computer. With that help, you'll get what you need much
faster, and learn more, too.

I can neither confirm nor deny that allegation. <w>
But I can't believe they picked Vanilla Ice! He sounded like a middle aged
guy yelling at neighborhood kids. I liked the Knack.

Gawd, I *know*! What in the *world* were they thinking?!
I liked the Knack.

I liked the Knack, too.

I liked the Motels' version of the Norah Jones song as well -- thought it
was kinda cool.

The groups helps those that help themselves.

"Coach", I am going to be frank with you. In all honesty I think you are a
kid trying to pull our leg. Asking us what the phone number is when I sent
you to their site where their number is readily available is either an
unbelievable oversight for an adult, or you are a kid playing games. What
ever made you think we are the world's 411 directory is beyond me. What
ever makes you think all of us have or use your hardware???

Maybe you are under the impression that we are Microsoft employees and you
think something like this is fun and games, you are wrong on both counts.
So I'll tell you what. Send me your active email address (mine is correct
here so just click reply to sender) and you and I can hash this out in
private. (And no, not some hotmail or yahoo address, your real email
account from your ISP.) If I am off base I will make an apology that is
just as public as this posting is. Please do me a favor and do NOT reply to
this post. It will gain you nothing as I do not believe anyone will reply
until this is straightened out. Send the email...

You can just call me,
Tired of a week long game,
