Glad to hear. It is ashame that Microsoft screws up drivers but what
can you expect, they are MICROSOFT.

Don't blame Microsoft if you download and install old manufacturers or
generic drivers from "Windows updates". Those are ONLY for initial
installation to get a working system, after that you use the
manufacturers current drivers.

Never had a problem with the latest third party drivers Bob? I have and
sometimes about 5% of the time, older drivers are better and less buggy.
And I haven't gotten Microsoft's EWF to work with SP3 yet. Both are
Microsoft's products, go figure.

Yep, sometimes I've needed to install an earlier version than the very
latest when I've reinstalled the operating system, but you NEVER, NEVER
, NEVER use Microsoft Updates to "update" your video drivers, even if
they really did come from the video card manaufacturer.

Also, is Windows XP embedded supposed to support SP3? I only see
references to Embedded with SP2.

Well all cases but one that I know of this was true. As once about 6
years ago I had a SiS video card. And to make it work with MS Flight
Simulator 2004, I had to use some parts of the original drivers, the
newest drivers, and parts from the Windows update video driver to make
it all work.

I am not sure, but it is a Microsoft product nonetheless. And it seems
to work without problems with SP3, but here was the tip-off it really
wasn't. When EWF is enabled you can pull the plug on the computer at
anytime and no harm will ever come. As when you bootup again, the drive
stays in the same state as it was. But with SP3 installed, I get an
error that Windows wasn't shutdown properly last time. Oops! Windows
isn't supposed to have any memory of any last time.

Sounds like they "patched around" the code that was to prevent that
write from getting through. <grin>

I was not downloading any drivers from Windows Updates. However, some
of Microsoft's updates seem to break a manufacturer's old installed
drivers. The only fix is to get and install a newer version.

Simply doing a driver Rollback to the working one frequently works just
fine.
